Judy Palmer

Judy Palmer

Judy Palmer always wears a smile!  Her favorite fabrics have lots of ‘bling” and she never met a batik she didn’t love!  She began her quilting career in Redlands, CA (which just happens to be BrendaLou’s birthplace!) many years ago.  She has a great sense of humor and runs around in her snappy convertible with Charlie, her big black dog at her side.  Judy knows all of our customer’s dogs by name!  She is happily married to Warren and Mom to two grown children.

Pat Durbin

Pat DurbinQuilter/Fiber Artist…

“and she paints with thread”

Artist Statement:

Ah, fabric, thread, beautiful colors and patterns!  The art quilt is my way to express the joy I feel observing creation.  My medium is fabric and thread.  Fibers add a texture depth to my art.

I have sewn clothes since childhood and now spend most of my sewing time making quilted art.  My style is to machine quilt on my home sewing machine.  Since 2005 I have been making “art” quilts that resemble paintings.  I find this to be filled with challenges and rewards.

I make traditional quilts occasionally too.  (Some folks don’t realize that).  There’s nothing like a comfort quilt as a gift for family or friend.

I am a pastor’s wife and recently completed my first book, “Mosaic Picture Quilts”, published by That Patchwork Place.

Classes:  Teaching others is always a joy.  1) “Free motion machine quilting” is a popular class that teaches the fundamentals; 2) “Landscape classes” using my Mosaic Picture piecing technique, gives you a head start on my book projects; 3) “Fabric painting and thread play” is just plain fun; 4) “Finishing techniques” make all the difference in your quilt, and most recently-; 5) “Family Stars” a more traditional quilt pattern that can have many family pictures inserted using photo transfer.

Laura Meglemre

Laura M

Laura Meglemre started sewing at an early age and is now quite experienced.  She’s not afraid of original quilt design, so when new panels arrive at the store Laura is our inspiration.  Laura has recently gone back to college so we don’t see as much of her as we’d like, but she still gets the chance to teach and helps out in the store when she can.

Stephanie Schultz

Stephanie ShultzStephanie Schultz started quilting when she found out she was to become a grandmother in 1998.  Since then, she also began a long-arm quilting business, Wolf Moon Studios (707 444-3949), in 2002.  Stephanie loves to make quilts in 1800’s fabrics, batiks, vibrant color, shabby chic, and just about anything that is quick and easy.  So much fabric, so little time!  Stephanie teaches a Vintage class monthly, other classes on occasion and fills in at the shop behind the cash register.  She loves her quilting friends and is enthusiastic and outgoing.  She knows she found a great shop to work with because, “we take each other’s classes and love to get together for Sew Days,  What more could one ask for?” Stephanie has been married to Jake for 35 years, has two grown children and two fantastic grandsons, Mason, 9 and Miles, 7.

Robin Ibarra

Robin IbarraI started quilting at 13 when my Grandmother taught my sister and I how to put together a quilt top. That was all it took! I was hooked and have been in love with quilting ever since.

I’ve been there through all the wonderful changes that have come to the quilting world. Who ever thought of rotary cutting should be given the Nobel “Piece” Prize! I used to hand quilt everything, but now I find it to be too slow! I have the need for speed in my quilting. About 2 years ago I launched my own pattern line called; From the Nest Designs and I’m really enjoying putting all those ideas I have out in the market. One thing I’ve learned through the years is that there is always more than one way to do something and it’s fun to learn from others.

My quilting motto is:

Don’t sweat the small stuff…..quilting should be fun!

Margie O’Keefe

Margie O\'KeefeWhen Margie moved to Humboldt County in 1984, her friend Geri Fury encouraged her to attend quilting class at Adult Ed with her. She made a few small projects, and finally in 1991, her first big quilt. She has been quilting non-stop ever since! Margie’s love for quilting and teaching has reached far into the quilting community. Some of the words her students use to describe her are user-friendly, encouraging, hostess with the mostess, etc… Margie is a wife and mom as well, with five kids ranging from 42 to 22! She loves color and gets a gleam in her eye when coordinating the colors for her next project. Margie hosts our Girls Night Out on Friday nights and teaches a wide variety of classes. When you take a class with Margie, it usually includes yummy goodies or lunch as Margie is an avid cook as well. It’s no wonder she’s one of our most popular teachers!
